Detecting and Dealing with
Male Yeast Infection Symptoms
Male yeast
infection symptoms are not always very obvious and as a
result many men believe that Candida is a female problem.
This is incorrect but whereas the symptoms of yeast
infection are very apparent in women, sometimes as a male
you may remain completely unaware you have had the
condition for months or even years.
If you have ever had male yeast infection symptoms you will
know they can be incredibly irritating and need to be treated
as soon as possible. The most common cause for men is through
sexual intercourse when the female already has a yeast
infection. Ideally if your female partner has been diagnosed
with a yeast infection they should inform you so you can get
tested too.
The most common yeast infections in men are penile, oral and
internal but can all be treated effectively with either
prescribed medication, over the counter creams or even natural
remedies. The most uncomfortable and embarrassing of these
infections is that affecting the penis.

Male yeast infection symptoms are more obvious when
affecting the penis as opposed to other areas of the body.
These may include a burning sensation, itching and aching
during urination and/or sex. The rim of the penis can also
become painful with the dome reddening.
As with women, men may also experience an unpleasant whitish
or yellowish discharge, which will make the tip of the penis
turn red. In rare cases the whole penis and surrounding areas
can become red, itchy, swollen and covered in white
patches.
There are ways you can prevent these male yeast infection
symptoms such as using a condom during sex and gently washing
the penis afterwards. If either you or your partner is infected
then it is advisable to avoid sexual intercourse during the
treatment period, keep the infected area dry and wear loose
underwear and clothing.
As already mentioned, penile yeast infections are not the
only things that can affect men. Oral yeast infections or
thrush can affect men, women and children and will cause creamy
white lesions in the mouth. These may be near the tongue, inner
cheeks, the roof of the mouth, gums, tonsils or the back of the
throat.
Yeast infections can also affect men internally causing bad
breath, bloating, constipation, frequent gaseous feelings,
diarrhoea, loose stools, irritability, mood swings and sexual
dysfunction. You may also feel lethargic, encounter memory
loss, prostate problems, itchiness or have athlete’s feet.
As discussed already a yeast infection in men can be
difficult to detect early on and may only become apparent to
you when the symptoms are full blown. As well as catching the
infection through sexual intercourse, you may be more
susceptible if you suffer from diabetes or if your immune
system is low.
If you have diabetes you are more vulnerable than most
because of the elevated levels of sugar in the urine. This
elevated sugar level is ideal for the yeast to grow at a faster
and increased rate.
People infected with other diseases that impact their immune
system are also at greater risk of being affected by yeast
infections. For example if you have an underactive thyroid
gland, sufferer from extreme stress, HIV or Lyme disease you
will be more susceptible.
You can take several home remedies to help get rid of yeast
infections such as eating garlic or using tea tree oil or apple
cider vinegar. Don’t apply cider vinegar directly to the
infected area but add it to warm bath water. Adapting diets to
reduce the intake of sugar will also help you reduce the risk
of infections.
