Vaginal Yeast Infection
Symptoms
Nearly 75% of all women
will experience a vaginal yeast infection at some point in
their lives, so if one of those women is you, do no
despair! The good news is, yeast infections can be treated
and prevented. If you think you might have vaginal yeast
infection symptoms, it’s important to seek treatment as
soon as possible so you can get back to living your life
and stop the needless suffering.
Vaginal yeast infection symptoms can be uncomfortable and
embarrassing, but you don’t need to be embarrassed. Thousands
of women have been in exactly the same spot with exactly the
same symptoms. Vaginal yeast infection symptoms are nothing to
be ashamed of, and they are not caused by poor hygiene or (in
most cases) sexual contact—although sometimes a monogamous
couple can pass one back and forth between them when both
people are not treated together.

Vaginal yeast infection symptoms are caused by candida
albicans, a tiny living fungus similar to the fungus that
creates household yeast. Candida lives in the body all the time
without causing any problems, because its numbers are kept in
check by other microorganisms that live there too.
A yeast infection results when the ‘friendly organisms’ in
the body and in the vaginal tract become less numerous than the
candida organisms. When a good balance of microorganisms is
present and everything is functioning correctly, the friendly
organisms that live in the vaginal tract keep the vaginal yeast
candida under control. But when those friendly organisms are
depleted as the result of antibiotic treatments, stress, or a
compromised immune system, yeast organisms can multiply quickly
and yeast infection symptoms are the result.
Vaginal discharge and itching can have a variety of medical
causes, some of them bacterial, others disease-related, but
once you’ve had one or two yeast infections, vaginal yeast
infection symptoms become instantly familiar.
Some of the most common vaginal yeast infection symptoms
include:
Thick white vaginal discharge. Women frequently describe the
discharge that signals a yeast infection as having the
consistency and appearance of cottage cheese. Sometimes,
however, the vaginal discharge can be greenish or yellow in
color.
Extreme itchiness in the genital area. The itchiness that
accompanies a vaginal yeast infection is almost overwhelming.
It goes far beyond an ordinary itch and can literally become an
obsession.
With redness and soreness in the genital area. The vulva and
vagina may become red and inflamed and tender to the touch. You
might experience some pain during urination and intercourse.
The redness, swelling, and itching in the genital area may make
intercourse painful and it may even hurt to urinate. This is
because they candida microorganisms can migrate into the
urethra and inflame that too.
If you think you are experiencing vaginal yeast infection
symptoms, it is vital to start treatment as soon as possible,
While over the counter treatments are available, a physician
can prescribe antifungal mediation that you take by mouth that
will knock the yeast infection out faster. Combining medication
with lifestyle changes such as better diet (reduce or eliminate
sugar, yeast, and additives while increasing high quality
protein and fresh vegetables), better stress management, and
looser, natural fabric clothing are common measures prescribed
to prevent future attacks.
Vaginal yeast infection symptoms are not fun, but they don’t
have to be a catastrophe either. A yeast infection can be your
body’s way of inviting you to take better care of yourself, eat
well, and manage your stress, and that’s a good thing!
